transformer oil: Made from refined mineral oil, transformer oil is used for its electrical insulation capabilities and its stability at high temperatures.

total loss lubricants: Lubricants that are used once only and then are lost into the environment.

tribiology: The study of the science and technology related to surfaces moving against each other.

vegetable oil: An oil made from triglycerides from plants that can be either edible or non-edible. The problem with vegetable oils in industrial applications is that they turn rancid over a period of time.
